JKDNYC is a upcoming personal training company dedicated to providing you with high quality martial arts. We are a proud member of Progressive Fighting Systems (PFS) which is an organization dedicated to teaching realistic self defense and promoting the expansion of Jeet Kune Do and Filipino Martial Arts.Why do we focus on personal training?Personal training is the best way to learn period. It means your trainer is invested in you reaching your goals. In this format every student counts and does not get lost in the crowd. As a result of this approach we develop quality students as oppose to large volume. We create this enviroment by having small group classes and private training. Our classes speciailize in giving you the skills you need now not years later. Affordable classes for both men and women from as young as 18 to well into your old age. The exercises we incorporate into our classes are meant to help you develop your overall fitness, health, and atheletic ability. We teach everything from employing our jkd street fighting system to acquiring the physical skills and psychological composer to deal with any random act of violence. Our techniques and strategies are lab tested and used by our Special Forces; Navy Seals, FBI, CIA, SWAT and over 18 government agencies. For those who are more experienced or just wish to learn more we offer an extensive mixed martial arts program. Our MMA program is based off of Bruce Lee's art of Jeet Kune Do . We cover all ranges of fighting , key concepts for attacking and defending, countering, interception , and more. Become well rounded in boxing , grappling , kickboxing , clinche , trapping , and more.

Chris Moran has been involved with the martial arts for the last 15 years. His journey started with the timeless art of Shaolin Kung Fu and continued with other fighting system. However by his first teachers recommendation he started learning more about the art of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do.At the time and a lot of research it was clear si gung Paul Vunak was unique in is his approach to Jeet Kune Do. It was the strong emphasize on concepts and realistic training that stood out above the rest. By 2005 Chris Moran achieved the honor of receiving a rank of Full Instructorship under si gung Paul Vunak at the age of 24yrs old. The invaluable lessons Chris Moran learned from his journey in the martial arts paved the way for him to start teaching in the heart of New York City. Since 2005 Chris has taught all over New York City from open classes in Central Park, FightHouse Gym, Chinatown, Spanish Harlem and now currently in the heart of Chelsea. Chris Moran's teaching experience ranges from training children, teenagers, adults (ages from 18 to 60), beginners, experienced martial artist, teachers in other disciplines, amateur fighters, security personnel, police officers, men and woman. During his training he has had the good fortune to be exposed to other martial art styles that help broaden his perception of the arts. These include the following but are not limited to Shaolin Chin Na, Brazilian Jujitsu, Tai Chi, Filipino Martial Arts, Muay Thai, Western Boxing, Wrestling, Bagua Zhang, Karate and Tae Kwon Do. He hopes to offer students a clear and complete view of martial arts through the study of Jeet Kune Do Concepts. By having a strong base in JKD concepts the student will be able to obtain realistic self defense skills (R.A.T.), apply the science of MMA, and finally the warrior spirit of a martial artist.Other Influences.Chris Moran influences comes from a wide spectrum of people that he has known personally or just through researching their great work in their respected fields. I have taken these classes for about a yr and I must say that it hard finding small intimate classes without paying the residual arm and a leg. I must say that I saw improvements in physique and stamina after 3 months and the instructor was very patient and makes the routine work for you and not you working for the routine (ie: i have a bad ankle we did equally hard training that accomplished the same task, just another way). Not to mention he is easy on the eyes is also a positive...but I must say I have lots of fun and I can kick some butt simultaneously. Not to mention when I was approached by a hostile female I was able to handle myself quickly and efficiently. - Sakura BetheaOf all instructors I've spoken to Chris Moran stood out the pile because of his words. He spoke in a different light about JKD,the internal aspects of it. Hearing him speak one can only feel the flux of emotions and feel that he's passionate about the art. Working with him for the past 8 months now I see his words definitely matches his actions. - Toheeb Asharobi JKD is an excellent way to get in shape, develop self-defense skills, build self-confidence, refine your concentration and increase coordination. Yet the concept and techniques of JKD can be difficult to learn without a good instructor. Fortunately Chris Moran is a great instructor. I was initially apprehensive towards his unique style and teaching methods, but since beginning his class I have improved my footwork and have learned new technique such as destructions, savant kicks, counters and trapping techniques. Classes and Our Approach to Training You...
Our approach to learning is simple we are fully engaged in the process. Lessons are taught in a progressive manner from first learning your technique to fully functionalizing your new skills. The instructor will provide undivided attention, demonstrate technique, give in-depth explanation, and provide sparring to test your skills in a safe manner. Bruce Lee 's Jeet Kune Do is the foundation and core material for all our classes. We incorporate Jeet Kune Do Concepts to teach you realistic self defense , mixed martial arts , and women self defense. The exercises we incorporate into our classes are meant to help you develop your overall fitness and atheletic ability. Our drills will improve your hand eye coordination, timing, reflexes , body mechanics, power, speed and more.You will sweat in our classes and get a work out that will challenge every muscle in your body. Improved muscle tone, increased energy, weight lost , and flexibility are just some of the good side effects from learning martial art skill. WHAT IS JEET KUNE DO?
Jeet Kune Do (also "Jeet Kun Do", "JKD," or "Jeet Kuen Do") is a hybrid martial arts system and life philosophy founded by world renowned martial artist Bruce Lee in 1967 with direct, non classical and straightforward movements. The system works on the use of different 'tools' for different situations. These situations are broken down into ranges (Kicking, Punching, Trapping and Grappling), with techniques flowing smoothly between them. It is referred to as a "style without style". Unlike more traditional martial arts, Jeet Kune Do is not fixed or patterned, and is a philosophy with guiding thoughts. It was named for the concept of interception, or attacking your opponent while he is about to attack. However the name Jeet Kune Do was often said by Bruce Lee to be just a name. He referred to it as "The art of expressing the human body" in his writings and in interviews. While the original base of Jeet Kune Do is derived from wing chun, boxing and fencing. The cornerstone of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do would be come concepts that he felt were universal truths of combat. The following are key principals that make up the foundationto understanding Jeet Kune Do: Be like water , Economy of motion , stop hits , simulaneous attacking and defending, 4 ranges of combat (kicking, Punching, Trappling, Grappling) , 5 ways of attack, Controling Centerline , Combat realism, and Absorbing what is useful disregard what is useless.In time Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do would further develop into two schools of thought. "Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do" which is considered to be original jeet Kune Do for its focus on teaching the material as taught by Bruce Lee. "Jeet Kune Do Concepts" is the other approach further developed by Dan Inosanto which incorporates the original teaching but has been expanded and further refined. JKD Concepts is viewed to be a process not an a productof one's development , expression and understanding of combat. Students are encouraged to understand the original material and concepts so one can ultimately better express themselves in combat. Jeet Kune Do Concepts would be an early example of what is mixed martial arts today. Bruce Lee is often referred to the father of mixed martial arts. Quality and experience are words that come to mind when learning directly from an experienced instructor. Whether you want your own private session or want to train with a friend. We can accomedate training to your schedule and either train inhouse or at a local gym.We plan a workout routine to reach your goals based on your skill and fitness level. Limit of one to two students.Duration: 60 minutes.
Want to be in a class but still want individual attention? This group is for you. You can train with a small group of students at your level or start a new group with your friends. This format creates a fun and team oriented experience for the group and the individual student. Small group classes have a minimum of 4 students to start a group and limit of no more then 10-12 students. Duration: 60 minutes.
Whether you are a martial arts school, mma gym, sports club, law enforcement, security agency, or corporate company we will provide the highest quality of training to your students or clients.
